Elisa Gastellum performed in the 2005 LCIMC Showcase Concert and then she won as runner-up in the Tercer Festival de Mariachi contest taped at Walt Disney World and broadcast on Univision. Elisa’s faith, joyful spirit and grace helped her to fulfill a very special dream.
Tragedy struck when Elisa was killed in an automobile accident on February 24, 2006. She was 18 years old. Elisa’s voice was a precious gift from God and she will forever be an inspiration and an example of what is possible when you are divinely blessed.
Since Elisa’s death, the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference established The Elisa Gastellum Mariachi Scholarship Endowment Fund. A college scholarship will be awarded every year at the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference. Vocalists selected by the audition process may apply for the annual scholarship. One of the five vocalists will be awarded the college scholarship.
The memory of Elisa Gastellum will always live through this scholarship fund. Touching other young people who have the love and passion of singing Mariachi music as Elisa did.
Now she is singing with the choir of angels in Heaven.
